Livewire Design is an electrical design company operating out of Central Queensland, Australia. Our core operating competencies include detailed survey, design and drafting of overhead and underground electrical reticulation systems, up to 33kV. We offer experience and knowledge when providing consultancy services in the electrical and infrastructure segments.
Established in 2014, Livewire Design was built on a strong foundation. It’s principal, Toby Hower, already had a reputation for delivering quality electrical survey and design. It was therefore natural for regulatory authority providers, such as Powerlink QLD and Ergon Energy, to continue working with Toby under the Livewire Design banner. Livewire Design aims to exceed the client’s expectations by completing quality designs, on time and within budget. Our many years of experience in the field working in restricted areas such as gold and coal mines, substations, factories and plants gives our team an integral advantage.
We offer a personalised service, quick turnaround and we are competitively priced in the market. We aim to build long term partnerships with industry service providers who choose to use our distribution survey and design services.

Distribution Design Services
Livewire Design specialises in the provision of distribution design services to the Queensland Distribution Network Service Provider (DNSP) – Energy Queensland Limited. Project funding is primarily from their replacement expenditure (REPEX) budget. Services have also been provided to the Transmission Network Service Provider (TNSP) – Powerlink Queensland.
Livewire Design offers the following services –
- Scope projects, evaluate options and make recommendations on cost effective solutions
- Obtaining all necessary development and regulatory approvals
- 3rd party approvals and customer negotiations
- Environmental and cultural heritage assessments
- Detailed engineering surveying, asset identification and condition assessment
- Detailed designs for overhead including line profile, construction plan and bill of materials
- Structural loading calculations
- Midspan separation calculations between phases and between circuits
- Clearance calculations to ground and to structures (vertically and horizontally)
- Uplift calculations
- Detailed designs for underground including construction plan, trench sections and bill of materials
- Conductor/cable rating and voltage drop calculations
- Proposed asset pegging such as poles and stay anchors
- Technical support during construction
- Post construction auditing including sag checking
- RPEQ Certification
